Porcine Fecundity

I got into the pig business about two years ago now. In all that time, I always said that I have no desire to breed pigs. I would just find a quality breeder and finish their weaners on our pasture. Well, never say never. Check out the video.

  1. Congrats on graduating to full-fledged pig farmer (which reminds me, I still have yet to give you your wedding gift).

    • Hey Zach,

Thanks for reminding me – where’s my wedding present pig?

At our wedding, we got two very agricultural themed gifts that would have to rank quite high in the cool gift scale. Don’t get me wrong, all the pots, pans, knives, kitchen equipment and so are great, but getting a ton of alfalfa hay from one neighbor and a pig from someone who I went to school with from kindergarten through high school, is darn cool and unique.

The hay has been doled out very sparingly, both because we don’t routinely feed hay and also because that stuff is like gold. We only use it for special occasions or sometimes as a treat for good behavior.

The pig hasn’t showed up yet (ahem, zach) but since it is spring and I have tons of piggies on the ground, it seems like a good time to graciously accept the present.

  2. Very cool! There may be nothing cuter than a new-born piglet. I grew up a 4-H kid–your video brought back a lot of memories. Thanks for posting it!
